Working for Biodiversity Net Gain: taking stock and prospects for the future

As previously announced, the BBOP Secretariat and Executive Committee have conferred and feel the time has come to bring BBOP in its current form to a successful close at the end of 2018.  We plan to do so with a final conference in Paris in November 2018, to celebrate the arc of developments over the last 15 years, focusing on BBOP’s legacy and future opportunities for the wider Community of Practice to promote Biodiversity Net Gain.

We will be meeting at the headquarters of Caisse des Dépôts for the final conference.  This gathering is being coordinated with several other meetings in Paris that week of groups focused on Natural Capital, including WAVES (World Bank), the Natural Capital Coalition, the Government Dialogue on Natural Capital, OECD Green Growth Knowledge Platform and the EU Business and Biodiversity Platform.

We are planning an engaging agenda including robust debate and working sessions on topical and challenging issues. This is the overall structure:

  • Tuesday 27 November: BBOP members will meet in conference with guests.
  • Wednesday 28 November:  Delegates can choose between informal working sessions and discussions on special themes; a field trip; attending the Natural Capital Coalition meeting (if you are a member of that group); or exploring Paris.
  • Thursday 29 November:  A joint day with the EU Business and Biodiversity Platform.

The attendance fee is $250 for one day and $400 for both days.   Due to the informal, flexible nature of the agenda on Wed 28 November, there is no cost associated with that day except covering your own travel and food costs. Space is limited to 180 people with.  There are also conference partnership opportunities available.  If you are interested in joining us in November for this important milestone gathering, or becoming a conference partner, please contact us at BBOP@forest-trends.org.
